KUALA LUMPUR: The local bourse ended Tuesday on a weak note, bucking the uptrend among regional peers, as index-linked glove makers dragged.

At closing, the FBM KLCI fell 2.09 points, or 0.13% to 1,609.19. The index opened 5.13 points lower at 1,606.15 this morning.

In the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 649 to 414, while 441 counters were unchanged. Volume stood at 5.78 billion units valued at RM3.59mil.

Dealers said market sentiment remained cautious due to the absence of fresh catalysts amid lower oil.

Oil prices fell as the Suez C *** opened up after days closed by a grounded supercarrier and focus turned to an OPEC+ meeting this week, Reuters reported.

Brent crude was last traded at US$64.54 per barrel, down 44 cents while US WTI fell 52 cents to US$61.04 a barrel.

Meanwhile, sentiment among Asian investors turned positive with most of the region's major markets trading higher.

The MSCI's Asia ex-Japan stock index was firmer by 0.42%.

Japan’s Nikkei closed up 0.16% to 29,432.70 while Topix lost 0.78% to close at 1,977.86.

South Korea’s Kospi closed up 33.96 points, or 1.12%, at 3,070.00.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was up 239.20 points or 0.84% at 28,577.50.

China’s CSI300 index rose 1.0%, to 5,094.73, while the Shanghai Composite Index added 0.6 to 3,456.68.

On Bursa Malaysia, some counters hit limit up. MPI jumped 48 sen to RM39.94, Paragon Globe surged 30 sen, or 50.42% to 89.5 sen while Concrete Engineering Products added 29 sen, or 40.85% to RM1.

Index-linked glove makers were the main drag on the index today. The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has directed personnel at all US ports of entry to begin seizing disposable gloves produced by Top Glove in Malaysia.Top Glove fell 27 sen to RM4.78, dragging the index down by 3.4021 points. Supermax fell 17 sen to RM3.95, dragging the index down by 0.7102 points. Hartalega shed three sen to RM9.36, pushing the index lower by 0.1579 points.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank rose two sen to RM8.40, Tenaga improved six sen to RM10.40, Public Bank added five sen to RM4.28, IHH gained 13 sen to RM5.43.
